Release of “Chandanyacha Zhot” composed by Pt. HridaynathMangeshkar and sung by Baiju Mangeshkar

A totally acoustic cross-cultural music collaboration between India and the Far East Produced by South Asian Arts Academy & Released by Saregama

R.Rao :- ( Mumbai & Hong Kong) We are delighted to announce the release of our single “Chandanyacha Zhot”, a one-of-a-kind cross-border musical experience created by Pt. Hridaynath Mangeshkar and rendered by Baiju Mangehkar, featuring some of the foremost musical talents from India and the Far East coming together to express the lyrics of celebrated Marathi poet Kusumagraj.

“Chandanyacha Zhot” is unique for three major reasons:

1. Pt. Hridaynath Mangeshkar has composed it after a hiatus of five years and it features his son, singer-composer Baiju Mangeshkar.

2. It is completely acoustic, with real musicians and without any programmed, synthesized or sampled sounds, creating a very pure and surreal sound experience.

3. It is the first Marathi non-film release that features an international cast of stellar musicians, including a string quartet that appears courtesy of the Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra, bringing together the foremost musical talent of South Asia and the Far East.

The music arrangements are by Anthony Fernandes, a noted jazz musician from Hong Kong, with rhythm arrangements by Nitin Shankar, one of the most successful hit-makers in Bollywood. It also features the young and accomplished musician Abhishek Borkar on the sarod. The video is directed by National Award winner Samujjal Kashyap, who has captured stunning visuals of the natural landscape of Assam and Meghalaya.

The single has been produced by South Asian Arts Academy of Hong Kong, under the direction of Jayang Jhaveri, and is sponsored by Mrs. Purviz R. Shroff and the late Mr. Rusy Shroff of Hong Kong. It is released by major music label Saregama, India’s oldest and largest music company.

Pt. Hridaynath Mangeshkar said: “I am more than pleased with the final result of this cross-border collaboration, particularly that one of my most favourite poems by Kusumagraj has been adorned beautifully by the pure and natural sound of real instruments which is a rarity these days, as well as lush arrangements where every musician has excelled in their own way.”

Baiju Mangeshkar said: “I am delighted to collaborate with SAA Academy for this project, and honoured and blessed that my father Pt. Hridaynath Mangeshkar chose me to sing this excellent composition and poetry – a rare combination.”

Jayang Jhaveri, Chair of SAA Academy, said: “We at the SAA Academy Hong Kong are honoured to collaborate with the legendary

Pt. Hridaynath Mangeshkar and his son Baiju to bring this unique melody featuring international talent to a global audience through Saregama.”

Pt. Hridaynath Mangeshkar is a recipient of the coveted Padma Shri award, is the youngest sibling of the legendary Indian vocalist Bharat Ratna Lata Mangeshkar.
